So yesterday, I told you that Canada’s Broadcaster reversed its decision to ban “Baby Its Cold Outside”. Maybe the ultra conservative company is becoming progressive? But then again, it appears the backlash to the song is only from a few people in the world, because some new streaming numbers came out, and three versions of the song are climbing the charts!
They are: Dean Martin’s version from 1959 . . . Zooey Deschanel and Leon Redbone’s interpretation from the “Elf” soundtrack in 2003 . . . and a version recorded by Idina Menzel and Michael Buble in 2014. These were the three largest gainers of ANY songs on “Billboard’s” latest Holiday Digital Song Sales chart with Dean’s version jumping from #23 to #2. It hasn’t been this high since it went to #1 in 2011. Overall, it jumped 257%. Buble’s version jumped 165%, and Zooey and Leon saw a 130% increase.
So has his become an awakening of sorts for the world? Are we realizing that songs from a hundred years ago (ok I exaggerate a little) were not written with the intent to force women into an unwanted sexual situation? The original Captain Kirk would agree! William Shatner kicked off a heated discussion via Twitter when he reacted to a report that the CBC planned to stop playing the song, a decision that the broadcaster later reversed. ” Shatner’s got fans, and he’s got trolls. You can just feel Shatner switching his phaser to a deadly setting in his tweets.
I would think that censorship of classics because certain “types” need to judge things through their own 2018 myopic glasses and demand they be stricken from history is important. Or is this 1984 only 34 years too late? https://t.co/sU4JgIA80i

At any rate, as the meme says, there’s a hell of a lot more stuff to worry about than old song lyrics. As I’ve always said, if you don’t like what you hear or see, change the channel. Or, better yet, go give a warm coat and mittens to your local homeless shelter
